Activities and Events

Across the globe, Bahá’ís and their friends and neighbors strive to put the teachings of the Bahá’í Faith into practice through active community building. These collaborative grassroots efforts focus on empowering individuals of all ages and backgrounds to recognize and develop their spiritual capacities. Through an educational process characterized by service, reflection and consultation, people of all backgrounds participate in devotional gatherings, study groups, children’s classes and junior youth spiritual empowerment programs. The Baltimore City Bahá’í community invites you to join these efforts to build networks of friendship and mutual support in our neighborhoods and community.

Prayer Gatherings

The heart of a devotional meeting is the sharing of prayers and passages from Holy Scriptures, but beyond this there is no set form. People of all faiths and backgrounds come together to create an uplifting, spiritual atmosphere through prayer, song, cultural sharing and mutual support.

Often held in homes or neighborhood centers, prayer gatherings are free and open the public.

Study Circles

Study circles provide participants with the knowledge, spiritual insights and skills to contribute to the betterment of society. Study circles are held in an uplifting environment conducive to the spiritual empowerment of individuals, who come to see themselves as active agents of their own learning. The role of the study circle facilitator is not to impart knowledge, but to assist discussion. Study circles feature participatory learning, involving discussion with others, and the use of the arts.

Children’s Classes

Children’s classes help children understand and apply spiritual principles such as love, unity and justice to their own lives. Drawing on the teachings of the Bahá’í Faith, the classes aim to inspire in children a love for God and to lay the foundations of a noble and upright character in the young. These classes include prayers, songs, cooperative games, arts and crafts.

Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program

The Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program is designed to create a supportive and encouraging social environment for middle school youth. Through studying a curriculum based on character building, intellectual development and service projects, these pre-youth channel their energies towards the betterment of their communities. Training and hands-on accompaniment is offered for youth and adults who wish to become junior youth spiritual empowerment program mentors and volunteers.
